Marta Carrasco
“AIGUARDENT”

The Catalan Marta Carrasco brings an intimate solo performance, using many common elements in movement, voice and ambiance. Marta’s work is an open attempt at breaking the barriers between dance and theatre with a strong story and sensitive choreography. Marta Carrasco, last year - with succes - our guest at the International Mimefestival, is a splendid and all-round actrice. Full houses have greeted this solo production which sets the standards for dance-theatre in its quest for new audiences.
“Aiguardent”, literally ‘burning water’, is a voyage through the experiences of a broken woman. A voyage through her memories, her dreams, her wistful ironies, her abandonment. A woman slowly drowning in an atmosphere which is completely familiair and at the same time an inside-out version of everyday life.

‘Marta Carrasco shows a strong composition, her visual intuition intensifies the theatrical impact.’ “Teatri di Vita”

Compagnie Dos à Deux
“DOS A DEUX

”André Curti et Arthur Ribeiro, Brazilian artists, created Dos à Deux after a long period of research.. Definitely guided in their work by the most famous clowns from Chaplin to Buster Keaton, burlesque improvisation becomes an imaginary transposition of the major themes of “Waiting for Godot”. The performance “Dos à Deux” is an explosion of imagination, creativity and humour and the mingling of comedy and tragedy.

Alone in the world, they wait. they wait for someone that we know will never come. Suspended in time, they play absurd games, agrue endlessly, and find each other again to fill the silence. those are children, holding each other, protecting each other.

‘They dance, they jive, and contort their bodies to an unimaginable level. Is it a dance format? Is it a mime show? Is it just our expression of senses through ‘body language’?
All yes and yet, no-an ability beyond words’ “Bombay Times”

‘They are not dancers, nor mimes, nor clows, but the three together and they are perfect.’ “Radio France”

Antonin Novotny
“WHAT IS WHITE DOGSHIT REALLY GOOD FOR”

“What is white dogshit really good for” is a type of psycho-social theatre denying any forms and conventions and taking for basis the feeling as a reaction towards objects and relations. Absurd and cheerfull, the disarmning appearance of this mime Antonin Novotny. Again and again tickles this bearded man our curiosity.
The counterparty is abstract and the spectator perceives it only through mime and non-verbal reactions. The protagonist goes through situations wich gradually traumatize him so that he eventually disappears in reality. His live does not have a tragic ending, it is just transformed into another form of existence.

All performances share characteristic poetics, bottemless know-how, playfullness and endless source of ideas. On their stage everything is possible. Sometimes they speak, too. His wedding day is before him. He drank. A lot. They take him home and set his alarm clock. In his drunken thoughts the whirlwind of wedding images and visions won’t stop. Teatro Inercia
“TRANSMUTATION”

Shanti Oyarzabal studied at the “Ecole de Mime Corporel”, followed body-training by Yves Lebreton, voice and body movement by W. Mehring, Butho-dans by Sankai Juku and experimental dans by Shiro Daimon. Shanti Oyarzabal had been inspired for his performance from the mythology of the ‘Huicholes’ indigenes of Mexico, where they contemplate the Blue Deer ‘KAUYUMARI’ as a very special god. The theme of the performance is the constant change of form and essence of the matter.

From the blue of the ocean and the flowing rhythm of the waves, the presented body transforms successively into a plant, a devil-like creature, a tree, a deer, a bird, before expiring in fire.

‘Shanti masters the instant metamorphosis from a laughing mask in great agony, a deformed and grotesque body, to a state of deep meditation.’ “”Berliner Zeitung”

‘The shamanism of ritual embodiment that becomes an ecstatic experience for eyes and vision.’ “Ballett international tanz aktuell”

Fiat Lux
“NOUVELLES FOLIES”

Fiat Lux’s exuberant comedy of clashing cultures and competing masculinities is a delight from start to finish. “Nouvelles Folies” , a light-hearted tale where earthy wisdom and humour go hand in hand. This play is ludicrous, musical and particulary visual. Not a word passes between the seven players, but their performance is another step forward in Fiat Lux’s search for perfection in the art of the clown. An hour of delirium called “Nouvelles Folies” .

They’re just a happy couple. Come all the way from Paris to spend a few days in a quit little spot on the Breton coast. Far from the madding crowd, just to ‘get away from it all’ and ‘recharge the batteries’. But the locals are not exactly friendly...‘A non-stop flow of Monty-Pytonesque scenes, but chock full of wit and subtle poetry. A rare and delicious treat in the true spirit of Jacques Tati’s ‘M. Hulot’. “Die Welt”

‘Each step, each movement is pregnant with meaning and the impression is one very rarely experienced at the theatre, of watching a perfecly edited film.’ “Süddeutsche Zeitung”

EXPO – 20 YEARS MIMES AT MIMOS
Date : 4 to 13 October – Free entrance

In 1983, an international mimefestival was organised for the first time in Périgueux, tonw in the South of France. Today, two talented photographers from the first hour are presenting a round-up exhibition of the 18 successful editions that would follow afterwards. A magnificent exhibition that shows like nothing else the very different sides of this art form.
Maurice Melliet and Guy Charrié:
Maurice Melliet, an autodidact constantly searching for the secret of contemporary alchemy. This photographer, journalist, graphic and poet, feels his selves connected to the cultural scene and he definitely doesn’t want to keep it as a secret, his admiration to the artists.
Guy Charrié chooses black-white photography. He trains now and then photographing rugby games, because body mouvement plays also a leading role there. The pictures can really live there own life.

RAOUL SERVAIS
“Portrait of a painter-filmmaker”
Date : 4 to 13 October – Free entrance

After Annecy, Montréal and Gent this unique exposition is now in Aarschot and offers you the opportunity to learn more about the Flemish grandmaster of animation movies. This exhibition, an excellent overview of 40 years of animation movies, contains original animation draws, but also attributes and installations where the entire animation film's process becomes totally visual. Moreover, this exhibition shows the less-known side of Raoul SERVAIS, notabely that of a very talented painter.
Raoul Servais was born in Ostend on 1st May 1928. After his studies at the Royal Academy of Modern Art in Gent he made his first three movies. In 1966 he founded the very first training centre for animation movies in Europe. He made a number of short animation movies and a full-length one, which was awarded more than fifty national and international prices. Raoul Servais also leaves the bases of different technological innovations, for example the Servaisgraphy, a process that makes it possible, on a relatively easy basis, to combine life-action takes together with drawn pictures.
